In an Akashic Records reading, soul purpose is usually less about one grand mission and more about the qualities, lessons and kinds of contribution your soul is here to grow into. A reading can help you see the themes that keep calling you, what has been getting in the way, and what a next step might look like. It will not hand you a job title, but it can give you a clearer sense of direction that you can test in everyday life.

If you have done plenty of inner work and still feel something is missing, this is one of the most common reasons people book a reading. Here is how we approach it, and how to get the most from a purpose-focused session.

What "soul purpose" means in the Akashic Records

People often arrive with a big question: "What am I meant to be doing with my life?" It is a fair question, and it can also put a lot of pressure on one answer.

In the Akashic Records, purpose tends to show up in layers.

Qualities to embody

Some souls are learning courage, some patience, some self-worth, some how to receive. Your purpose may be as much about who you are becoming as what you do.

Lessons and patterns

Repeating patterns, such as always putting others first or never finishing what you start, often point to the lessons your soul is working with. Our article on signs of a past-life pattern explores how some of these may have deeper roots.

Ways of contributing

This is the part people usually mean by purpose: teaching, healing, creating, building, caring, leading, connecting people. A reading may describe the flavour of your contribution rather than a specific job.

Timing and seasons

Sometimes the message is that you are in a season of learning, rest or preparation, and that the next chapter will open when you are ready.

Signs you may be ready to explore your purpose

  • You feel successful on paper but quietly unfulfilled.
  • You keep being drawn to the same interest but talk yourself out of it.
  • You have changed jobs several times and still feel unsettled.
  • You are at a life transition: children leaving home, a separation, a move, retirement or a health change.
  • You feel a strong pull to help others but do not know what form it should take.
  • You have a recurring dream or image that seems to mean something.

Questions that work well for soul purpose

Open questions get richer answers than yes or no questions. Here are some that tend to work well.

  1. What qualities is my soul here to develop in this life?
  2. What gifts do I bring that I tend to overlook?
  3. What is getting in the way of me living my purpose more fully?
  4. Why do I keep returning to this interest, and what is it asking of me?
  5. What is the lesson in the work I am doing now?
  6. What would help me trust my own direction more?
  7. What is one step I can take this month towards a more purposeful life?
  8. Is there a past-life pattern affecting how I see my own worth or ability?

Common themes that come up

Every reading is personal, but some themes come up often when people ask about purpose.

"You are already doing it"

People are sometimes surprised to hear that their purpose is already present in their life, in how they listen to friends, raise children or bring calm to a team. The step is to value it and do more of it on purpose.

"The fear is the doorway"

The thing you are most afraid to try is often close to what you are here to do. A reading may help you understand where the fear comes from and what would make the next step feel safer.

"It is not one thing"

For many people, purpose is a thread that runs through different roles over a lifetime. The reading may help you see the thread instead of chasing a single perfect role.

"Rest first"

Sometimes the guidance is to pause. Burnout and exhaustion can make purpose feel far away. Rest is not a detour from purpose. It is often part of it.

Turning purpose insights into real steps

A reading is most useful when you bring it back to daily life.

  • Name the theme in one sentence. For example: "I am here to help people feel safe enough to speak."
  • Spot where it already lives. Where in your current week does that theme show up?
  • Choose a small experiment. Volunteer for one afternoon, take a short course, have a coffee with someone doing the work you are drawn to.
  • Review after a month. What felt alive? What did not?

If the reading points towards a change of career, study or finances, treat it as inspiration and do your practical homework. Talk to a career counsellor, a financial adviser or others in the field before you make big changes. A reading is spiritual insight, not career, legal or financial advice.

Purpose, past lives and soul contracts

Questions about purpose often connect with other themes. A reading may touch on:

60 or 90 minutes for a purpose reading?

If you have one clear question about direction, a 60-minute reading is usually enough. If you want to explore purpose alongside relationships, past-life themes or family patterns, the 90-minute deep dive gives you room. See our readings and prices.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Akashic Records tell me my life purpose?

A reading can offer insight into the themes, qualities and kinds of contribution your soul is drawn to. It usually does not give a single job title. Most people find it gives them a clearer direction to explore.

What if my reading says something different from what I expected?

That is common and often helpful. Write it down, sit with it, and test it gently in daily life. You always stay the decision maker.

Can my soul purpose change over time?

Many people find their purpose unfolds in stages. The core themes tend to stay, while the way you express them changes as your life changes.

Should I quit my job after a soul purpose reading?

We encourage you not to make sudden big decisions based on a reading alone. Use it as one input, alongside practical planning and professional advice.

Is soul purpose the same as my astrology chart?

No. Astrology looks at the planets at your time of birth. An Akashic Records reading looks at your soul's journey through the Records. Some people use both. See Akashic Records vs astrology.

Can I explore my purpose online from anywhere in Australia?

Yes. Most readings are online by video call, so you can join from anywhere. See how an online reading works.
